Welcome to the Charlotte Civic Orchestra's
2008/2009 season.
Welcome to the Charlotte Civic Orchestra's
2008/2009 season. We have an incredible series of
performances which will display the artistry of our
fine orchestra. This will be one of the most exciting
series of classical music this year in Charlotte. Our
first performance is an outdoor performance as part of the
Festival in The Park event at Freedom Park. This is
always an exciting festival and is the first time that the Civic
has been involved in this event. We will be performing a
wide variety of music ranging from the movie music of "Titanic"
and "Jaws" to the great first movement of Beethoven's fifth
symphony and a couple of the movements from Holst's "The
Planets". Our Fall orchestral concert will be in
December and we will present Tchaikovsky's "Pathetique" symphony
and will also feature two players from your Civic in Mozart's
Flute and Harp concerto.
For our first Spring concert we will be
collaborating with Charlotte's premier early music ensemble;
Carolina Pro Musica in a performance of music from the Baroque
era. This will take place in the gorgeous acoustic of
Belmont Abbey. Our final subscription performance is one
of the most important events in Charlotte's music scene.
We will be showcasing a work composed entirely by selected
Charlotte area middle school students during the 2008/2009
school year. This project is coordinated by one of
Charlotte's most popular composers, David Crowe.
I invite you to experience your Civic: we are people in
your neighborhood overflowing with talent and passion for great
music.
See you soon!
